Looked After Children

The number of children in looked after care has been rising steadily in the UK; in 2016 there were just over 70,000 children.  As with all our pupils, Newbold Verdon Primary School is committed to helping every looked after child to achieve the highest standards they can, including all aspects of their education. This can be measured by improvements in their academic achievement and progress, as well as their outlook, attitude to learning and attendance.

Leicestershire County Council are committed to ensuring the best outcomes for any child in care through their Virtual School. To visit their site click here.

The Department for Education Pupil Premium Plus (PPP) allocation for the 2022/23 financial year (April 2022 to March 2023) for children in care is £2,410 per eligible pupil (children that have been in local authority care for one day or more).  Funding for these pupils is managed by the local authority that looks after the child.

Schools also receive additional funding for any pupil identified in the spring school census as having left local-authority care because of one of the following:

  • adoption
  • a special guardianship order (SGO)
  • a child arrangements order
  • a residence order

In order to access this funding we need to record your child as previously looked after on our census. Please be assured that this information will be treated as confidential. If you would like us to ensure we access Pupil Premium Plus to further support your child then please use the 'Contact Us' page or email: office@newboldverdon.leics.sch.uk
