Welcome to EYFS
At Newbold Verdon Primary we recognise that starting school is a momentous time for children and parents alike. Prior to starting, we arrange a number of occasions in which we aim to make the transition process as easy and as smooth as possible. These include: early years staff visiting different pre-schools and nurseries during the summer term prior to children starting, organising times when the children can visit their new setting, a welcome meeting for parents and conversations with pre-school and nursery staff.
When children start school, we will work together in order to ensure that children are happy and settled. We aim to give children a nurturing and exciting environment in order to enable them to grow into happy and confident learners. We recognise that children learn best when they are interested and motivated to learn.
When children enter Reception, they will build on their pre-school and home experiences and take part in a wide variety of different activities both inside and out. We follow a play based curriculum based around 7 areas of learning. These are:
Communication and language
Personal, social and emotional development
Specific Areas of Learning
Understanding the world
Expressive arts and design
Each area of learning is important and each connects with other areas. Alongside these areas, we provide many practical experiences for children to enable them to learn and develop key skills and concepts. We teach regular phonic sessions, maths and reading through a combination of teacher and child led activities and also have an amazing forest school which children can experience and access regularly.
Assessment in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is through informal observation of children and is recorded through use of Tapestry, an online learning journal.
We look forward to meeting you and working with you.
