Friends of Newbold Verdon Primary School

The Friends of Newbold Verdon School is an association of parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, guardians/carers of children, school staff and other persons wishing to offer appropriate support or help to the school.

Objectives

To advance the education of pupils in the School by;

  • Developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school.
  • Engaging in activities or providing facilities or Equipment which support the School and advance the education of the pupils.

We achieve these objectives mainly by raising money through various activities such as; sponsored events, discos for the children,  a summer fayre, raffles, providing tea & coffee at school productions and making toast for the pupils which is sold at the morning break.

We The money we raise is then used to provide activities and equipment which support the school's educational objectives.

We Our donations have made a major contribution to the development of the ITC suite, provided outdoor play and wet playtime equipment, library books, theatre productions in school amongst many other things.

2008/09: Fundraising and how it was spent

We raised over £5,000 which was another fantastic achievement for everyone involved; the committee, parents, staff and of course the pupils as well.

We donated £5,820 to the school including:

  • £4,000 Playground resurfacing
  • £1,000 KS1 Literacy
  • £400 Curling equipment
  • £100 European Day
  • £100 Dance Club
  • £220 Gazebos (used for Sports Day, Summer Fayre etc)

2009/10: Fundraising Target

All of the money we raise goes towards advancing the education of our children and we hope that this year will be as successful.

At a recent meeting we decided that at the start of every year we would raise funds for a specific area. Mr Staunton said he would like to resurface the area around the adventure play equipment which is currently on the field and as such cannot be played on during the winter months when it is wet, icy or muddy. We have therefore chosen this as our target for the remainder of this year as it is something the whole school uses and once done will be there for years.

However our fundraising will not be limited to this one project and we have already donated the following to the school this year:-

  • £100 per class to be spent on new equipment, books etc as required by each class teacher.
  • £250 for a travelling theatre group to visit which we understand was a great success thoroughly enjoyed by the children.
  • £600 (approx.) for 'portable' cookers to be purchased.
  • £50 literacy games such as Scrabble, Boggle etc.
  • £100 for the author visit before Christmas

The main work of the committee is organizing and helping at fundraising events and activities. If you have any ideas for new ways to raise money or you would like to get involved with the committee or help at any of our events please contact anyone on the committee directly or via the office. We always welcome new people getting involved. To find out more about how you can help please contact the Headteacher.

Meetings

We have a meeting every term to which everyone is invited. Dates and agendas for the meetings are published in regular newsletters and on the FNVS notice board in the main reception area of the school near the office. Minutes of all meetings are also available on the notice board. The Annual General Meeting is held at the beginning of the Autumn Term. It includes a report on the previous year and the accounts. The committee and officers for the coming year are also elected at this meeting. A copy of the accounts for the previous year is available on the notice board.

Time for Toast? Can you spare one hour a week?

The wholemeal toast made by FNVS volunteers every day is very much enjoyed by the children and provides them with a healthy snack and helps concentration as well!
Last year it was also our biggest fundraising activity raising over £1,100.
A big 'thank you' goes to all the volunteers who make this possible it is a really worthwhile activity.
We always need new volunteers to make toast either on a regular or occasional basis.
If you can help please contact the school office with your details.
